Frequently Asked Questions.

Why are swim lessons so important?

Swim lessons are important for several reasons:

  1. Water safety: One of the primary reasons for taking swim lessons is to learn how to swim and stay safe in the water. Knowing how to swim can be a lifesaving skill, especially for young children who may be at risk of drowning. Swim lessons teach important safety skills such as how to tread water, float, and swim to safety in case of an emergency. Unfortunately drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4 years and more that 3500 people die annually in the US. Water safety is a necessity.

  2. Physical exercise: Swimming is a great form of exercise that provides a full-body workout. Learning to swim can help improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and endurance. It's also a low-impact activity that is easy on the joints, making it an ideal form of exercise for people of all ages and fitness levels.

  3. Confidence: Learning how to swim can help build confidence and self-esteem. Knowing how to swim can give children and adults a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of mastery over their environment. This can translate to other areas of life and help improve overall confidence and self-esteem.

  4. Recreation: Finally, knowing how to swim can open up a whole world of recreational activities, such as swimming, diving, and water sports. This can make life more enjoyable and fulfilling, and provide a lifelong source of fun and adventure.

How do I schedule, register and pay for swim lessons?

Lessons run from Memorial Day through Labor Day (additional times can be discussed for heated or indoor pools). To schedule, first go to the Services and Registration tab and purchase your package. Once the package is purchased, we will contact you to schedule. Please include the age of the student and your general location, and a few days and times that you would like for your lesson. All lessons must be paid in full prior to scheduling. Each package includes 4 individual lessons that can be scheduled at your convenience.

You can also purchase the summer subscription option which will guarantee you 8 individual lessons per month from June- September. This is the only way to secure a spot for the entire summer. Subscriptions are the same cost but will auto bill monthly to allow scheduling to continue. The first payment will be paid at registration, then 3 additional monthly payments will be auto paid on that same day of the month for sequential 3 months.

How often and how long are swim lessons?

Each package includes 4 individual lessons (or 8 lessons per month) that can be scheduled at your convenience. Most families like to run lessons once or twice weekly for the entirety of the season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) or as the weather allows.

Each swim lesson will run 30 mins.

Do I need to be present for my child’s swim lesson?

Yes. A parent or guardian should be available for the entirety of the class. For children ages 6m-3 Years, a parent or guardian must be in the water with the instructor. For ages 3 and up we ask that parents are not in the water during the lesson, but are available if needed. In most cases children will be more focused if a parent is watching quietly from afar.

What if I have to miss a lesson?

We understand that in some situations you may need to miss a scheduled lesson. If you are able to notify us prior to 24 hours of the missed lesson we will work with you to reschedule the missed time. Unfortunately, if you must cancel the lesson within 24 hours of the lesson you will forfeit the ability to reschedule the lesson.

How many lessons do I need to learn to swim?

As it is in most cases, there is no magic timeframe for when someone will learn something. Learning to swim is obviously very physical, but is also very emotional and mental for some students.

Many people can learn the basics of how to move their body effectively in the water, how to float etc. within about 8-10 lessons, but some people learn differently and may take a shorter or longer time.

That being said, many children under 2 can do the basics of floating, kicking, holding their breath and blowing bubbles, treading water. Student above 3 can often learn to do all of those things plus glide underwater, swim correct form and correct breathing for crawl stroke (freestyle) and swim unassisted backstroke. We understand that all children learn differently and have many methods that we will adapt to each student and their personal needs and goals.
